The Birch

Founded in 2004, The Birch is the first national undergraduate publication devoted exclusively to Slavic, East European, and Eurasian cultures. Any undergraduate student at any college can submit work to The Birch. A group of Columbia undergraduates selects submissions and publishes the journal, which is completely student-run. Appearing both online and in an annual print issue, The Birch publishes a wide spectrum of work, including literary criticism (essays and book reviews); creative writing (poetry, prose, creative nonfiction, short stories); essays on culture, history and politics; translation pieces; and artwork (photography and drawings) related to the region.
