Areas of Interest

I’m interested in the body of work of Valentin Parnakh, a Russian émigré poet, choreographer, and translator whose writings were chiefly composed in Paris during the 1920s. More broadly, I plan to research connections between the French avant-garde, especially Dadaist and Orphist circles, and the Russian avant-garde, namely in the realm of intermedial approaches to poetry and dance. My other interests encompass translation theory, Russophone Jewish writing, connections between Russian and Turkish modernism, and representations of collecting in the modernist novel. I look forward to pursuing these interests in an interdisciplinary manner both within the Slavic Studies PhD program and the ICLS program.

Education

I received my undergraduate degree in Philology (Comparative Literature) at the Higher School of Economics in St. Petersburg and my MA in Russian and Slavic Studies at New York University.
