Ništa / Nothing by Aleksandar Boskovic

The title of this exhibition — Nothing — marks both the beginning and the limit of art, an active space in which meaning emerges: a fissure in representation, a silence that speaks, an emptiness that compels us to rethink what art is and what it can be. Nothing brings together experimental practices by Serbian, Croatian, and Slovenian artists from the 1920s to the 2020s, whose shared language of resistance, irony, negation, and self-reflection remains recognizable — a living, enduring matrix of thought. These works show that experimental art is philosophy by other means. Rather than offering answers, it raises questions about value, meaning, and what remains when the visible is depleted and when “nothing” begins to function as a measure. Humor and resistance are central to this logic. From the Zenitist slogan “steal freely!”, through Stilinović’s economy of laziness and zeros, to Trbuljak’s anti-career, Šijan’s media suicide, Ugričić’s Infinitive, and Savić-Gecan’s works that elude representation — these artists expose systems of value, revealing that such systems persist only as long as we consent to them. Laughter, irony, and play become tools of dismantling: ways to sidestep authority and open up a space of freedom.
